Sir George, please accept our best wishes if you should choose to stand in the forthcoming election for Speaker. My wife and I have been proud to have you as our MP for more years than we care to consider. We believe you would rebuild the respect the outgoing Speaker has sadly dissipated over the past few years. A new beginning seems entirely possible to restore parliamentary democracy. Your integrity is the foundation it needs. I have never written a political communication before. This is such an important watershed that everyone must play their part in regenerating the political system. Good luck whatever you decide. |

Many thanks for the email with its good wishes.
Standing for the Speakership is a big decision, and I need a little time to think about this. It has all happened much more quickly than I thought it would.
