Expenses - Transparency
The issue: Hello Sir George,

I would like to comment that although I consider your declared expenses to be reasonable and the fact that you have been including them on your website since 2005 admirable, I would like to know the breakdown of staff costs to be completely convinced as to their absolute honesty. This need not include names, an indication of the number of staff employed and their respective salaries would be sufficient. After all, £83K per annum is a lot of taxpayers money, especially when family members are employed.

Date Issue Raised: 24 May 2009
My response: Thank you for the email.

My website gives details of whom I employ
http://www.sirgeorgeyoung.org.uk/FAQ/newsitem.cfm?newsid=3477. and my staff costs are well below the average.

I believe my staff are entitled to some privacy – indeed as an employer I am under an obligation to them. To do as you suggest would enable people to work out who was paid what. I have complied with the requirement of the House of Commons and published in the Register of Members Interests that salary range that applies to my daughter.

Best wishes, George Young
