Amnesty International
The issue: A second meeting of Amnesty International will take place at the Lardi Cake pub on Thursday 15th January at 7.30 pm.

It says something about the political culture of this country that membership of Amnesty and the Tories is considered an odd juxtaposition. I would like to know the justification for this please.

I phoned Brian Hutchins and suggested that one or two local Conservatives might like to come along. He found this suggestion amusing. Andover Conservatives are very foolish if they underestimate me. I will soon be a member of the Tory Reform Group and the Freedom Association too.
Date Issue Raised: 12 Jan 2004
My response: Thank you for the email; I was addressing a meeting in Staines on Thursday evening and was not in Andover.
There is no reason why individual members of the Conservative Party should not also be members of Amnesty. As you know from my email on December 5th, I sent a message of welcome for the inaugural meeting on December 12th, and look forward to hearing from the local branch on issues they wish to raise with their local MP.
