Please do all you can to prevent our troops being used for this politically motivated deployment. Even one soldier is one too many british soldiers to go under American command, given the American record to date.
The Americans on the ground are puzzled by the request, having 130,000 troops in IRAQ already.
What is Mr Blair thinking of?

Thank you for the email, expressing views that I know are widely shared.
I understand that the Defence Secretary is making a statement at 3.30 tomorrow in the House of Commons. Let me assure you that he will be pressed on the issue of the chain of command, and the reasoning behind the proposed deployment of British troops.
