| Sir George urges Department for Transport to increase parking capacity at Hampshire stations

Sir George has written to the Secretary of State for Transport, who is currently deciding who should win the South Western Trains franchise. "I have asked him to take into account the willingness of the bidders to expand the station capacity at the four stations in my constituency - see below". Derek Twigg MP Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State Department for Transport Great Minster House 76 Marsham Street London SW1P 4DR 8 November 2005 South Western Franchise Consultation Thank you for your letter dated November 7th about the above. I have not as yet had an opportunity to look at the document on the website, but there is one issue which I think should be taken into account in deciding to whom to award the franchise. There is a crisis of car parking capacity at the South West Trains stations in my constituency – Overton, Whitchurch, Andover and Grateley. I hope that, in deciding to whom to award the franchise, attention will be paid to the commitment which they give to address this capacity shortage. Yours sincerely |
