The report by the House of Lords into the Mull of Kintyre helicopter crash,in which 29 people died, is published today. The crash in June 1994 was the worst peacetime accident to involve the RAF. The House of Lords select committee, chaired by former Scottish appeal court judge Lord Jauncey of Tullichettle, has been investigating whether the RAF was right to blame the crash of Chinook flight ZD 576 on the pilots' alleged negligence.

"A number of constituents have contacted me about this report, and I have joined the All-Party Group under Lord Chalfont which has been trying to clear the names of the pilots. The Select Committee make it clear that the decision that held the pilots responsible for the accident is unjustified and unlawful. No one will ever know what happened - but the decision which found the pilots guilty of gross negligence cannopt be allowed to stand. The Prime Minister should intervene and ensure that the Ministry of Defence puts the record straight"
