Sir George launched the Watership Down Walk, where 170 walkers helped raise funds for Macmillan. This walk is a revisitation of an event which took place in 2009, and, having done the walk, I know what an attractive event this is, with fabulous views over Watership Down.

Sir George paid tribute to the work of Macmillan Cancer Support, pointing out that the number of cancer sufferers was likely to double over the next 20 years, as more and more people lived longer.

"More people will need the quality support which Macmillan can offer, and I know that a useful sum of money will have been raised today to support their work".

The walk started off from Ecchinswell, and went on routes over the Down to Hannington, and back to Ecchinswell, or off the Down and back via Kingsclere for those ready for a 12 mile walk.

The event raised between £15,000 and £20,000.
